first stripes on baby blanket

I know it looks intense colorful. I am at the white stripe in the center.
Goes really fast. Love the twill. It should last........and because of the fiber, you can wash it in the washing machine. Super soft.

Warp is on for Baby Blanket

Looking at it, I think of Easter eggs but really, it is going to be a baby blanket, super soft  yarn.

Plastic liners / Water ?????

When I took my piece off the loom Monday night, it was very different that expected.
The piece itself, woven in 3/1 twill had become waves. The texture is moving.....Kind of cool. Have to look and live with it for a while till I decide what to do with it.

Wish I had not included my white warp tread which I wanted to be foam.Have to weave another piece....it is so addictive.

One small mistake........

took me hours to figure out where it was and how to fix it.
I started out yesterday, thinking I could just weave one piece without interruption. I had given myself 8 hrs. The piece was planned, the warp measured and ready to put on....
Since it was a narrow piece, I got the warp sleyed in 1 hour, winded up the warp, everything looked good.

When I tried to do tabby, the first mistake came up. I reread my draft, I made sure threads weren't cross. Everything was like it was supposed to be. But still I had persistent mistakes. Finally I went back to my book from which I copied the pattern and realized I made a mistake when I copied which not was repeating itself in the warp. I had to rethink what I wanted to do and fix it.
2 hrs later everything was ready to finally start weaving. I had chosen yellow bamboo as the weft. But it was too strong and interfering with the yellow roses. I tried a softer yellow wool but it still was competing. Then I found some paper I had bought for a different project but not used and it was right. The pattern doesn't show up as planned but I still like how the outcome is. And there is a stiffness to the weft, I truly like. Kind of as delicate as the dried roses.

Might be running out of plastic liners........

detail
When I started weaving on it last night, I thought, this is not going to work out. I actually considered ripping the first couple of rows I had woven out on Monday night. But what else was I going to do with the warp? I had no yarn with me to use. So I just started weaving. The more I wove, beating the weft into the piece, the more the pattern is visible. At this point it is still to early to say how it really looks. I just have to finish it and take it off the loom to see if it really shows in any way what I had planned for it to do. Maybe if I had chosen a thicker warp yarn, so that the difference between weft and warp would not be so great, it would stay out more - but at this point I just have to wait and see.

Woven section in 3 over 1 twill.  I want he warp to show the movements of waves while the plastic liners in their murky colors are supposed to be a reflection of the Gulf of Mexico.
This is the underside of the weaving or back.

Do you see the water?

This morning I got up early and instead of getting ready for some serious gardening, I sorted my plastic bags to use as weft in my "water weaving". Since it is suppose to be the Gulf of Mexico, I need murky looking water / grayish blue. So let us see how this will do. Will have to put up a picture of my beautiful, mostly hand dyed blue warp.

Yellow roses

I am quiet pleased how well my yellow roses dried. I gave them time to fully bloom open before I put them in little clusters to dry. Of course they shrank again but still they have a nice cluster of yellow pedals.
Now I have to make decisions what to use as warp and weft.

Finished weaving 2 more pieces.......

I finished the pussy willow piece. I was surprised that it was more fragile then the rose piece. The little fuzzy things are coming off like crazy. Have to think about what to do to stabilize it. Right now it is neatly rolled up in a towel.

I used the leftover warp for another stick piece with hand dyed colorful weft. I love how it came out. The color got subdued thru the beige warp and the neutral sticks. Very nice.

Hopefully next week I will start finishing the pieces and put pictures up on my website.
